It took me several weeks to find the courage to write this review. On a larger, conxition political level, it chronicles the machinations of Russia, the Kuomintang, European industrialists and bankers, and finally the nascent Communist party of China as they decide the fate of the insurgency and the workers and peasants who support it. His disdain for French banking interests is also made quite clear, especially at the end. Kyo Gisors is the commander of the revolt and believes that every person should choose his own meaning, not be governed by any external forces.
Historically, it’s a very interesting book.
The novel is about the failed communist insurrection in Shanghai inand the existential quandaries facing a diverse group of people associated with the revolution.
